Update - The prolonged nature of the current COVID lockdown and the strict guidelines are proving a real test for many of us. I stay in regular touch with our schools and am very conscious of the stresses experienced by many families involved in home based learning (HBL). Our principals and teachers are doing a marvellous job and are very conscious of these pressures and keen to support families in difficulty.
The nature of the delta strain is also such that our future is uncertain as long as it is present in our community. This uncertainty is compounded by financial pressures on families and the impact on employment too. COVID also affects when we will be able to gather again in the churches - a genuine concern for our parish, our schools, those in the Sacramental Program, those planning weddings and those who experience the loss of loved ones. Care for one another and staying in contact are essential during this time.
Outreach to Aged Care Facilities – This past week, we have made contact with the 5 care facilities in our parish and arranged for 75 parishioners resident there to receive a letter of support from the Parish along with a few prayer cards and reflections. All are in strict lockdown with no visitors allowed, so residents are isolated and must rely on family contact through other means. We need to keep them in our prayers and thoughts.
As well as the letter signed by Fr Dave, prayer cards include Pope Francis’ ‘5 finger prayer’, some of St Mary MacKillop’s ‘practical sayings’, a reflection on quiet prayer by Fr Benignus O’Rourke OSA, and recent parish newsletters. The cards feature stained glass windows in St Cecilia’s and St Kieran’s churches. If you know of any housebound or elderly parishioner who would like to receive this ‘package’, please contact the Parish Office (9949 4455).
