The Parish has received a special and very moving letter from Rev John Barker on behalf of the Northern Beaches Uniting Church (Manly, Balgowlah, Freshwater and Cromer) wishing us well at the Plenary Council which begins this weekend. He writes:
‘I am writing to you on behalf of the Northern Beaches Uniting Church to let you know that our community of Uniting Churches, Cromer, Freshwater, Manly and Balgowlah, stand in ecumenical solidarity with you as you engage in this significant period of discernment.
‘We would like to share with you a prayer written by Rev John Hughes, a Uniting Minister in Adelaide, which we will be praying during our online Sunday service.
Creator God, in your great love you have given us the gift of your Spirit. As the Roman Catholic Church in Australia enters this time of discernment, we pray that your Spirit would guide and encourage those involved in the Plenary Council. May we all stand together as we seek to be your people on the way of Jesus. We pray this through Christ Our Redeemer. Amen
‘Rev Sharon Hollis, President, Assembly of the Uniting Church of Australia, has also written to Bishop Coleridge, President – Australia Catholic Bishops Conference as well as Bishop Michael McKenna, Chairman – Bishops Commission for Christian Unity and Inter-religious Dialogue, to assure them of the prayers of the Uniting Church for the Plenary Council.
‘Please accept this letter and prayer as a sign of our support and encouragement.’
